Candlewood Lake Events
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Candlewood Lake Events (candlewoodlakeevents.com) is a free, curated guide to local events and dining around Candlewood Lake, Connecticut. This page explains, in plain language, what information the site collects and how it's used. We keep this deliberately minimal.
What we collect
- Email address — only if you subscribe to the weekly digest or create an account. Used to send the digest and to sign you in.
- Personalization preferences and zip code — only if you use the "Personalize" feature. Your zip is converted to approximate coordinates (via a public postal-code lookup) solely to measure how far events are from you; we don't use it to identify you. These preferences are stored in your browser, and in your account if you sign in.
- Account information — if you sign in with Google, Facebook, or an email and password, we receive a basic profile (name and email) through Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your Google/Facebook password, and for email accounts the password is handled by Firebase, not stored by us.
- Saved favorites — the events you star, if you're signed in.
- Anonymous usage data — visit counts, page views, device type, and referring site, plus a random per-device ID so we can tell repeat visits apart. This carries no name and is used only to understand traffic.
How we use it
- To personalize which events you see and rank them for your area.
- To send the weekly digest — only if you gave us your email, and every email includes a one-click unsubscribe.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Services we rely on
A few trusted providers help run the site and may process the data above on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — sign-in and storage of your account preferences and favorites.
- Google Analytics — anonymous traffic measurement.
- Facebook Login — only if you choose to sign in with Facebook.
- Resend — delivery of the weekly digest email.
- GitHub — stores the site and its data in a private repository.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the digest anytime via the link in any email.
- Reset personalization using "Reset" in the banner at the top of the site, or by clearing your browser's storage.
- Delete your account and data — contact us and we'll remove it.
Cookies and local storage
The site stores your preferences and a random device ID in your browser's local storage. Google Analytics sets its own cookies for traffic measurement. No advertising cookies are used.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
